Photographs of My Kids Playing in the Pool

My kids love to swim in a pool no matter how cold it is.  It’s crazy how kids can tolerate cold water in a cold winter day.  They wanted me to swim with them but it was cold and I only swim when it’s warm (my rules).  Most of the photographs are all candid of course and shot without them posing.   I usually like to photograph kids in their natural environment without them posing.  A genuine laughter and smile are best compared to a posed “say cheese” approach.  Here are some photos of them swimming.

Children Photographers – What Should My Child Wear For Portraits?

What Should My Children Wear For Portrait Photography?

There are many answers to that question, the most basic of which, is something comfortable! Babies and young children are antsy enough without us forcing them to wear something itchy, tight, unwieldy or hot. Besides comfort, there are many other things to consider when dressing your little angels for portraits.

  1. The Birthday Suit-Newborns and babies have gorgeous skin, and nothing shows off that natural, innocent creature like nakedness. An added bonus for slightly older babies, is that eyes tend to stand out more when they are not overpowered by clothing, and, let’s face it, some of us tend to make our babies look silly in outfits that either don’t fit, or that look more like costumes than clothing.
  2. Mostly White Clothing-This is a popular look for baby and children portraits. All white clothing gives a clean and natural look to the images, and is a great way to create a classic portrait that captures the purity of childhood. This is a common choice for family portraits, as well. White clothing works great for outdoor photos as well as in-studio portraits with a white backdrop.
  3. Bold Colors-Don’t be afraid to put your baby or child in bold colors or prints. Although we generally wouldn’t recommend a bright print for an adult (or newborns,) vivid colors on young children will result in a playful, lively portrait, especially primary colors like red, blue, and green. (Take a chance with yellow only if you know it is flattering against your child’s skin color.) Bright colors really pop against the greens of nature, so consider a meadow or woodsy area for your photos.
  4. Avoid Stripes-Stripes can wind up looking distorted in the final image, and, like bright prints, can be a distraction from the subject.
  5. Layering clothing can be a stylish effect.
  6. Multiple Children or Family Portrait Photography – Here is where it becomes important to avoid prints. Typically, you don’t want loud, distracting clothing in a portrait since it tends to lead the eyes away from the subject. It’s nice, in a multi-person or family photo, to try and coordinate clothing so that colors and styles complement one another. For instance, you don’t want one child wearing wintry clothing and the other in shorts and t-shirt, or one wearing a nice dress and the other wearing ratty-old tennis shoes. Choosing clothes with same or similar colors unifies the picture and keeps the focus on the persons in the picture.
  7. Accessories and Props-Finally, I’ve done some adorable portraits of children wearing hats, tiaras, scarves, fairy wings, even tutus. If your child wears his Superman cape everyday, maybe you should let him wear it in a few pictures. Why not? You want pictures that capture that your little guy really is, right? Besides, he may be much more willing to take other non-cape pictures afterwards. Props can be great addition, too, so consider bringing your child’s favorite book, stuffed animal or toy.

Be sure to discuss your expectations with your San Francisco photographer before you hire him or her. It’s important to make sure you are both on the same page, and he or she can share additional tips that have worked well for the location you’ve chosen.

San Francisco Children Portraits

Children Portrait in San Francisco

I am a wedding and portrait photographer in San Jose.  I can do portraits of kidschildren -  family in my studio or outdoors.   I also do head-shots for online dating for a minimal fee.

My wife wanted her eyebrow tattoo and we had to wait for one hour.  So I drove around and found a nice little park where there was a magnificent view of Alcatraz and San Francisco Bay.   It was nice to go around and up-down the steep city streets of San Francisco.  It’s not like in San Jose where it is flat but with mountain in east.  I was thinking of going to the crazy zig-zaggy street (I forgot the name) but I have been there so many times before but could not find it.   This time, I stayed close to where my wife was having her tattoo.

Here are my two kids having fun in San Francisco.

Baker Beach-San Francisco – A Great Place to Have Your Portrait Taken

Baker Beach – A Great Place to Have Your Portrait Taken

I am a wedding photographer and portraitfamily / children portrait photographers from San Jose.  Available for portraits outdoor or in my studio.

We recently went to Baker Beach in San Francisco to spend sometime together as a family.  Baker Beach has a beautiful panoramic view of the Golden Gate Bridge and the Marin Headlands.

Here is a quote from the National Park Service about Baker Beach:

“Mile-long Baker Beach lies at the foot of rugged serpentine cliffs west of the Golden Gate. Large waves, undertow and rip currents make the beach unsafe for swimming, but it provides panoramic views of the Golden Gate Bridge, Marin Headlands and Lands End. You can fish or check out the shore-life along the beach and rocky shoreline. Restrooms and picnic tables are nearby”.

I have to warn you that this is actually a N U D E  beach!  During the weekends, you may find someone naaakeedd :) but it should be safe during the weekdays.  Also, this beach is not for the weak swimmer since there are sign stating that “swimmers have drowned here” posted all over the place.

My Son the SCUBA Diver

My Son had a Blast SCUBA Diving at Monterey Aquarium

When my son’s senior therapist, from ELCA, told us that there was a SCUBA diving program at Monterey Aquarium, we took the opportunity for my son to get into it.   It’s free for those who has physical handicap and learning disability.

We prepared our son for a good week telling him about SCUBA diving and what he will expect.  He was noticeably a little excited, which he doesn’t get excited that often unless he is watching Marvel cartoons.  He was very patient, sitting still and listening attentively to the three SCUBA instructors.  I think that he was excited partly because once he had the SCUBA dry suit, he looked like a super hero.

I was a little concern about him going underwater but the three SCUBA instructors assured me that he will be safe.  Monterey Aquarium provided 3 SCUBA instructors per special child which made me feel good that nothing bad will happen. Furthermore, they were not really going underwater and that they were diving into the tide pool portion at the aquarium.

To find out more about their SCUBA diving by calling Monterey Aquarium Underwater Explorers program staff at (831) 647-4532.    Lastly, SCUBA diving at Monterey Aquarium is only offered during the summer time.
