It is very important to have your children photograph since they grow so fast. You want the portrait photography of them as they grow bigger and bigger so that you  can have something to remember when they were cutier and loveable. So there are seval thing you need to do to, as a parent or guardian, to make sure the photo session goes smoothly.

First of all schedule the date of the portrait photography that is best for your child.  If your children best behavior is in the morning, then tell that to the San Francisco portrait photographer (or whatever city you’re in).

The other part that you want to do is suggest places where you want your children portrait photography to occur.  Since you know your children best, you’ll know where they are comfortable around.  Possible places to shoot are at the beach during the summer, parks, or at your home. For younger child, bring their security blanket so that they will be happier.  If the photo shoot is to occur in your home (front, backyard or inside) make sure you tidy up and clear the clutters from the areas that the photo session to occur.

Probably, the most important is that your children are well rested (sleep early the night before for early photo session or napping before an afternoon session).  Make sure that they are fully fed too.

Proper attire for the photo session is good for the overall look of the photo.  So something that is comfortable, plain colored, and coordinated looks the best.   Don’t clothed them in bright colored or stripped outfits since this could be distracting when looking at the photograph.  Bring extra clothes for a different look or just in case they get wet while at the beach photography session.

Does your children have a toy they like to play with?  Bring that along with you. In fact, bring a toy that it is meaningful to your child so that they can play with it as they are being photograph.   Children portrait photography while they are at play is best since this brings out their natural smiles and expression.  However, you must communicate your needs and expectation to your San Francisco Portrait Photographer.

Usually, children photography session last two to three hours in length.  Bring something that they can munch on and tools to make them look good (brush/comb).

If all the above is met, your children will have a wonderful experience while being photograph.  Last but not least, you will have your children photographs that you will enjoy for years to come.
