Tips on Hiring Family Portrait Photographer

Tips on Hiring Family Portrait Photographer

As a family photographer in San Jose, I often have the need to capture my children – family portraiture every now and then for us to enjoy looking at while hung on the wall.  It is often a reminder where we’ve been or how wonderful it was in the past years.

To capture the wonderful photographs that you’ll cherish for years to come, hiring a professional in San Jose  is a must and an investment that will pay you back in memories now and in the future.  Beautiful photo canvas or prints are a future family heirlooms that are meant to last since they are all printed in an archival media and produced by a professional photographic lab.

Unfortunately, most families are just okay with a point and shoot camera but that is not good enough since it is not professionally captured and frankly, point-shoot cameras are inadequate to obtain the sharpest and cleanest images.  Furthermore, majority of people think that it is above their means to have their photos taken professionally but it actually is affordable in most situation. In my humble opinion, hiring an experienced photographer is not just for the rich but also for everyone.  Having a quality photograph is the best way to preserve your memories for many generations.  The proper photo portraiture can be a source of fond memories for many years to come.

You have to keep four things in mind when hiring someone for your photography needs.  First: The amount of money you will be spending will help determine which studio to hire.  Not all of them are the same price. Second: Decide which portraiture you want.  Do you want to show emotions, love, attitude, or just plain family portraiture with a smile?  Third:  Decide if you want inside studio or outdoor shoot.  Majority of the pros do not own a studio.  Most will shoot outdoors or also known as “location shoot”.  Fourth: Consider where you want to hang your portraits.  Is it frames to put on top of your desk or a photo canvas to hung over your fireplace?  These three important points are a decision that needs to be made prior to you hiring someone to obtain the right images you want.  Call your local photographer to ask these questions so that you can best find the answer.

Pulgas Water Temple – Wedding Venue

Pulgas Water Temple

“San Francisco built Pulgas Water Temple as a monument to the engineering marvel that brought Hetch Hetchy water more than 160 miles across California from the Sierra Nevada Mountains to the Bay Area…………. On October 28, 1934, the roar of Hetch Hetchy mountain water greeted everyone gathered at Pulgas Water Temple to celebrate its arrival. With vivid memories of the fire that had raged unchecked after the Great Earthquake of 1906, the city rejoiced in its new secure, plentiful supply of high quality drinking water. The frieze above the columns expresses the city’s joyful relief: “I give waters in the wilderness and rivers in the desert, to give drink to my people.””  Quoted from SF PUC website.

Its a nice place for pretty much everything, including ceremony for a wedding.  If I was getting married, I would get married here except during the summer time (probably not during the hot weather months like on late June, July, or  earlier on September).   Imagine wearing a long coat, a heavy wedding gown  on your wedding day during a sunny summer day.   You get it?  You’d be sweating like a pig.  If you have to marry there during the summer time, then get married early morning (10am) or later in the afternoon (like after 3pm).

Look at a wedding I photographed last year here at Pulgas Water Temple.

Enjoy some of the photos.

Photographs of My Kids Playing in the Pool

My kids love to swim in a pool no matter how cold it is.  It’s crazy how kids can tolerate cold water in a cold winter day.  They wanted me to swim with them but it was cold and I only swim when it’s warm (my rules).  Most of the photographs are all candid of course and shot without them posing.   I usually like to photograph kids in their natural environment without them posing.  A genuine laughter and smile are best compared to a posed “say cheese” approach.  Here are some photos of them swimming.

SANTA CLARITA: A VISIT WITH MY SISTER

It was great to visit my sister again.  She looks so great and so are her kids.  It was my first time to see her youngest daughter, my niece.  She is really a cute kid.  I also saw my nephew who got really tall and with a deep voice.  I’m glad everyone is healthy and doing well.

Of course, being a portrait photographer, I had to bring my camera along.  I did not take too much photograph since we just basically stayed in my sister neighborhood.

Here are some photographs I took of them.  Please enjoy.

Filipino Event – Noynoy-Mar for President

Noynoy-Mar for President Event

It was another event to raise money for the 2010 Philippines presidential election for Noynoy Aquino and his vice presidential candidate Mar Roxas. The event took place at Edna’s Ichiban Restaurant in South San Francisco and it is one of the many events that is and will be taking place all over US to support Noynoy.

It was  good to hear several of the speaker talking optimistically about what the candidates can bring to the Filipino people.   I’m not up to date with all the political event that is going back home but I will read more about it.   So, the best I can do as a wedding, event, or portrait photographer is to take photographs of the event.    So enjoy several  of the photo I took during the event.

The event took place in a dark restaurant but the stage was lighted well with a stage light.  I initially used a flash but the photo did not turn out well.  So, I just bump up my ISO and started taking photographs.
