Wedding Photography – Photo-journalistic style
The Wedding Photography of today has changed and Wedding Photojournalism has become a standard phrase that has become a key part of any wedding photography. Nowadays, many if not most wedding photographers are using this style of photographer to document the wedding.
This style of photographing weddings is a sort of documentary approach as opposed to straight portrait and posed photos. It means capturing the moments as they happen naturally instead of staged photos.
One approach taken by many wedding photographers is to have a second person taking shots from the background and looking for those images that evoke a story, rather than a head-on portrait or a photo of a group being told to hold still and smile.
The trend has gained momentum since the 1990s and is a real part of many wedding photographer’s standard packages. Some photographers have gotten into their own particular niche, focusing on one style in particular. Others are so-called purists at heart and won’t even move a glass or ash tray out of the way of the shot as to keep things natural and as they are no matter what.
Photojournalism is definitely entrenched in the wedding photography world and is not simply a trendy fad or catchy buzz word. It is here to stay and it is what many brides want as a main part of their wedding photographs. After all, that is what is the most important thing in the long run, which is giving the bride and groom exactly what the want. Beyond all of the technical skill and knowledge of lighting and equipment, the photographer or photojournalist should be able to anticipate and recognize certain physical actions as well as emotions the subtle and complex imagery going on all around them. With all this, the wedding photojournalist should be able to meet or exceed the bridal couple’s expectations for capturing their wedding on digital negative.
